Privacy in brief
Through our website at https://billgoose.com, BillGoose helps customers compare and progress household products and services. We use personal information to provide the service you ask for, support and secure the website, manage referrals and transactions, respond to enquiries, meet legal requirements, and improve or market BillGoose where permitted. Some parts of a journey are provided by independent suppliers or specialist partners.
Who is responsible for your information?
BillGoose is operated by Dwellr Group Limited, trading as BillGoose, company number 14645778, of 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. Dwellr Group Limited is the controller of personal information where we determine why and how it is used. Other providers may be separate controllers for their own services.
Our Data Protection Officer support is provided by Evalian Limited. For privacy rights, complaints or Data Protection Officer enquiries, contact contact-us@billgoose.com. Your enquiry will be directed to the appropriate person.
Information we collect
The information depends on the service you use, which supplier or product you choose and how far you progress.
Contact and identity: Name, email address, telephone number and date of birth where required for a selected service.
Address and energy information: Postcode, address, supply-point information, current supplier, estimated annual consumption and limited meter information needed to provide a requested comparison or quotation.
Journey and transaction: Products viewed, quote or tariff selection, journey and order references, application details, referral and outcome/status information.
Choices and communications: Privacy acknowledgements, supplier declarations, cookie choices, email and text-message marketing preferences, review-invitation and opt-out records.
Technical and security: Device/browser information, IP address, timestamps, website events, sign-in and security records, and necessary website or journey state.
Support and rights: Enquiries, complaints, correction or deletion requests and correspondence necessary to resolve them.
We receive information from you, our systems and, where relevant, an energy-industry information provider, an affiliate network, a comparison partner or a selected supplier. We do not collect or store raw bank-account or Direct Debit details in the current BillGoose service. Where those details are needed, the relevant supplier collects them through its own process.
Energy quotations and property information
To provide an energy comparison or quotation you request, BillGoose may use ElectraLink QuoteRight to obtain official energy-industry information for the selected property, such as supply-point identifiers, current supplier and estimated annual consumption. Before accessing or displaying property-linked consumption information, we ask you to confirm that you occupy the property or are authorised to act for it. You must also confirm your authority when arranging a switch.
Where it is necessary to use that information to provide the comparison or quotation you asked us for, we rely on Article 6(1)(b) of the UK GDPR, because the processing is needed to take steps at your request before entering into a contract. Other processing associated with the service may have a different lawful basis as explained below.
Why we use information and our lawful bases
Provide comparisons, quotations, requested services and supplier hand-offs: Steps at your request before entering into a contract, or performance of a contract, where the processing is necessary.
Allow you to save or resume a journey you started; provide requested login links and service messages: Steps at your request before a contract or performance of a contract, as appropriate.
Keep the website secure, prevent misuse, support customers and handle ordinary operational enquiries: Legitimate interests in a secure, reliable service and customer support, or a legal obligation where applicable.
Attribute referrals, validate transactions and reconcile commission or enquiries: Legitimate interests in operating and reconciling our service, subject to the relevant privacy safeguards.
Invite genuine customer feedback after a supplier-confirmed transaction: Legitimate interests in obtaining genuine service feedback, where applicable. These invitations are not intended to contain promotional direct marketing.
Maintain finance, audit, regulatory and legally required records: Compliance with legal obligations or legitimate interests where applicable.
Send marketing or carry out optional analytics and marketing measurement: Consent or another legally permitted basis where its conditions apply, together with the applicable electronic-marketing and cookie rules.
Saved journeys, messages and marketing
If you leave part-way through a journey, BillGoose may keep limited information so that, on your return, we can offer to continue where you left off. You may also request a secure Magic Link to resume a saved journey. A requested non-promotional link or service message is different from a marketing email.
We may send necessary service, transaction, account and support messages. Where marketing messages are offered, email and text-message choices are managed separately where appropriate. We respect opt-outs and objections, and we retain only the minimum information necessary to prevent unwanted messages. Accepting our Terms, acknowledging this Privacy Policy or choosing cookies does not automatically provide permission for marketing emails.
How long we keep information
We keep information only for a defined service, legal, finance, security, complaint or other legitimate purpose. Different records have different retention periods, and an active dispute or legal requirement may justify keeping a minimum record for longer.
Incomplete journey: Normally up to 30 days from the last meaningful customer activity, unless another justified purpose applies.
Customer-requested Magic Link: A requested resume link has a 14-day lifetime; limited related audit evidence may be kept separately where necessary.
Completed customer/service record: Normally until 12 months after the expected contract or renewal end, subject to separate justified record obligations.
Routine support enquiries: Normally 12 months after the case is closed, unless it becomes a formal complaint, dispute or other separate case.
Affiliate and transaction reconciliation: Normally 24 months after the final validation, payment, reversal, dispute or enquiry closes. The same approach applies to an identifiable cashback exception record only if BillGoose actually holds one.
Marketing records: Inactive marketing profiles are reviewed after 12 months of no meaningful engagement. After opt-out, only minimum suppression evidence is retained as needed.
Finance, legal and privacy cases; security records: Kept for the relevant legal, statutory, evidential or security purpose, rather than under one general website period.
Browser storage and cookie choices: Periods depend on the technology and purpose; see the Cookie Policy and Cookie Settings.
If a separate supplier is the controller for information, it determines its own retention periods. Where a provider processes data on our instructions, we require appropriate contractual deletion or return arrangements.
International processing
Some service providers or independent suppliers may process personal information or allow access from outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law requires extra protections, appropriate safeguards must be used. Individual supplier locations and protections depend on the service used.
Automated processing and supplier decisions
BillGoose uses technology to match, sort and present comparisons, but BillGoose does not itself make decisions solely by automated means that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you. A product or energy supplier may use its own automated processes to decide whether to accept an application or assess eligibility. The supplier’s privacy information explains its own use and any applicable rights.
Your privacy rights
Depending on the circumstances and the legal basis, you may ask to access your personal information, correct it, erase it, restrict its use, object to certain processing, obtain portable information where applicable, or withdraw consent where we rely on it. These rights are not absolute and exceptions can apply. You can object to direct marketing at any time.
Contact contact-us@billgoose.com to exercise a right or raise a privacy concern. If another provider is the controller for the information you are asking about, we may direct you to that provider.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data-protection regulator, at https://ico.org.uk.
Security and children
We use technical and organisational security measures intended to protect personal information. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Please contact us if you believe your account or information has been compromised.
BillGoose is intended for people aged 18 or over and is not designed for children.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as our services, partners or legal requirements change. The current version will be published on the BillGoose website.
